Dr. Kuo received her B.A. from Dartmouth College, her J.D. from NewYork University School of Law and her M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed an internship in Pediatrics, a residency in Adult Psychiatry and subspecialty fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry at the
University of California, San Francisco.
She was awarded the Laughlin Award and the Irving Philips Award for her clinical skills in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the 2002 Rappeport Fellowship Award by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law for her work in Psychiatry and the Law. She has co-authored chapters in several textbooks on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensics. Dr. Kuo maintains a clinical faculty appointment at the University of California, San Francisco and a private practice in both San Francisco and San Mateo where she treats children, adolescents and adults. She also has experience working in child and adult residential facilities, child and adult inpatient units, therapeutic schools, psychiatric emergency rooms, juvenile hall and adult prisons.
Her forensic expertise includes assessments of both adults and children with a particular interest in child and adolescent forensic issues including child trauma, child sexual abuse allegations, foster care and dependency issues, parenting assessments, school consultation questions, child immigration issues, divorce and child custody issues, and juvenile court assessments. She has performed over 300 forensic psychiatric evaluations and qualified as an expert in the field of psychiatry in juvenile and adult courts and in the Federal Jurisdiction. She is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
